In his opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Ashley Bell, reflected on the company’s achievements over its 70-year journey, emphasising the vital role of employees in the business’s success. “The entire Bell family values and acknowledges every team member’s contribution. As we navigate the changes and challenges of our industry, your hard work and commitment remain the cornerstone of our progress,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of embracing change and innovation. “Your journey with us is respected today, and your role in sparking innovation is key to Bell’s future. As experienced team members, I encourage you to guide newer colleagues and carry forward the legacy of excellence,” he said.
Four decades of dedication
Four employees – Cindy Turner-Souchon, Craig Marais, Kasie Naidoo, and Themba Mthembu – were celebrated for their remarkable 40 years of service. Cindy, Craig, and Kasie all started their careers in the Bell Drawing Office, marking the first time in the company’s history that three employees, who started in the same year and in the same team, celebrated 40 years of service together.
Highlighting their dedication and putting their years of service into perspective, Ashley Bell shared a personal reflection: “When the four of you joined Bell, I was just two years old and not yet potty trained.” He added a heartfelt acknowledgment of Cindy’s contributions: “Cindy has captured our history through both joyful and challenging times, nurturing the essence of Bell’s heritage.”
Ashley also recognised Rhonda Smith and Elaine Bosch, who marked 30 years of service and are preparing for retirement. “We thank you for your years of commitment and wish you health and happiness in your golden years,” he said.
Stories of growth and opportunity
Employees shared their reflections on their Bell journeys during the event. Roy Singh, celebrating 30 years, expressed gratitude for the opportunities Bell Equipment provided, which enabled him to educate his children and build a life. Nothando Mjadu-Mtetwa, marking 10 years, shared her journey from a matric student participating in Cell C’s ‘Take a Girl Child to Work Day’ at Bell to becoming a process engineer. “The relationships I’ve built here and the mentorship I’ve received have made this journey incredibly rewarding,” she said.
As a third generation employee, Roland Forbay, a Millwright, who has dedicated 20 years to Bell, described his pride in being part of a company with a legacy of empowering employees and contributing to the community. “The Bell family is indeed a beautiful family to be part of, one that is constantly growing and changing. Bell reaches far and wide, making a difference in many homes and families,” he said.
Sbani Nyandeni, a Product Designer celebrating 10 years, spoke of his initial doubts as a recent graduate joining a high-tech environment and how Bell’s supportive culture helped him thrive. “The faith my team showed in me, even when I doubted myself, gave me the confidence to grow,” he said. “Today, I am proud to contribute to Bell’s innovative projects and be part of a company that leads the industry.”
During her speech, Cindy Turner-Souchon reflected on her journey, sharing memories of working alongside the Bell family and her late mentor, Paul Bell. She spoke passionately about the culture of care and collaboration that has shaped Bell Equipment. “Caring moments are what make our lives at Bell great,” she said. “The compassion shown between colleagues and the Bell family is what has kept me here for four decades.”
