South African farmers have never shied away from tough seasons, and 2026 should be no different. While several sectors and regions face challenges and uncertainty, the resilience, adaptability and long-term thinking that define our farming community remain as strong as ever.

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) and other livestock issues are deeply concerning on a national scale, and one can only hope that the rollout of FMD vaccinations gathers momentum and farmers, in particular, can rebuild their herds with the genetic diversity they require.
